You can upgrade your inventory size 3 times, but there is no "box" in which to store your items to be picked up later. You can, however, drop items anywhere and come back to pick them up later. Even if you leave them in Detroit or Hengsha on your first visit, you can still get them back on your second visit, so long as you don't leave them in a place that becomes inaccessible like where the riot occurs in Detroit. I used this trick in Hengsha to save up upgrades for the laser rifle that is obtained during the second visit, so it is something to keep in mind.

I just drop everything in Jensen's apartment back in Detroit or inside a room. They don't disappear for your second visit. Yes, there is an inventory box, which you can upgrade for more space via arm augmentations and as long as you have the necessary item space the game will automatically fit in anything you pick up.
