First Time Differential Fluid Change I am going to change my fluid for the first time this coming weekend.

I will be adding Lube Lockers as well. I have a couple questions. I don't run off road a lot, maybe 4 or 5 times a year because this is my commuter and daily driver.

That way you can avoid a situation where you drain all the gear oil and then find out you have no way to fill the differential with fresh fluid. Place an oil drain pan underneath your differential.

Use a paper towel and some brake cleaner to wipe the bolt clean. If you find any metal chunks, you should consider removing the differential cover in order to inspect the gears if you do remove the cover you will need either RTV Silicone Gasket Maker or Lube Locker Differential Cover Gasket when reinstalling everything back together. Tighten this bolt to 25 ft.

With the drain bolt installed and tightened, proceed to refill your differential with fresh gear oil. Pour in exactly the recommended amount of gear oil. If you still have stock differential cover, you can stop once fluid is oozing out of the fill hole. Tighten the bolt to 25 ft.

Follow the same steps with the rear differential. If necessary, you can jack up the frame of your Jeep and rest it on jack stands, to lift the track bar higher, above the differential. Allow the old fluid to drain completely before proceeding. Use a paper towel and some brake cleaner to wipe the drain bolt clean.

If you find any metal chunks, you should consider removing the differential cover in order to inspect the gears. Pour the old gear oil into secure containers use a funnel if necessary and clean up any mess. Take your Jeep for a test drive to a local auto parts store where you can dispose of used oil safely and free of charge. Attach the pump to the bottle of gear oil and route the length of hose into a secure location inside the fill port.

Begin pumping oil into the hole. If your pump will not completely empty the bottle, it may be necessary to transition to a second bottle, eventually pouring the remains of the first bottle into the second.

Replace the fill plug, tightening to ft. Did you know, Jeep has built a commemorative, one-of-a-kind Wrangler 75th Salute concept vehicle to mark the 75th anniversary of the Willys MB.

Like Liked by 1 person. I just did this last week. What a difference indeed. Easy and effective. I might redo the rear in 15, miles just because I would prefer having pure synthetic in the rear. Like Like. If you do a lot of towing, you may consider a heavier oil.

Good luck! It is a wise habit, though, to remove the cover every so often say, every three or four fluid changes so you can visually inspect the gears for chipping, etc.
