Nice to know, though, if nothing else works. I understand your replies to mean that a hit with a soul trap weapon will fill an available and appropriate soul gem, even if that hit kills the target and there was no previous soul trap effect active. So a sneak attack on a Skeever that massively overkills it with a bow of "Trap Soul for 1 second" will trap the soul. So the enchant on this single shot is applied before the poor varmint is killed; and you get the soul. Am I interpretting you correctly?

No, these one shot kills are wolves and such. I am on adept difficulty, level 33 or so, and have just gotten to the point where I can get one sneak attack bow shot on a frost troll and have barely enough time to get off maybe one more shot and then a manual soul trap spell before Faendal puts him down. Sorry not quite sure what the problem is, if you have a weapon enchanted with soul trap and you have appropriate soul gem you'll get their soul every time.

I just purchased Soul Trap and went out hunting in the plains around Whiterun all night long. I caught several game with my bow and arrows and even managed to fill some soul gems from measely wolves in close combat Is it even possible to cast Soul Trap onto prey at a distance? If not, does it mean I have to sneak up to them and somehow manage to get Soul Trap cast onto them before finishing off in close combat? Also, how do you find the version of Soul Trap that will allow you to enchant a weapon with it?

Thank you! Perchta Member. I haven't tried the bought spell yet, but I know that you if you use perks on your enchantment skill you can enchant weapons with soultrap. Also, if you disenchant a weapon that has soultrap, you acquire that skill. Like x 1. Don't ask how I got it. I bought my spell from the Mage in whiterun I can cast it away I don't need to touch enemies with it.
